Vietnam’s Most Expensive Pho Sparks Debate – Priced at Nearly 4 Million VND

A luxury version of Vietnam’s iconic pho, called “Phở King”, has recently gone viral for its price tag of 3,888,888 VND (≈ $165) per bowl. It is served at a restaurant on the 66th floor of Landmark 81 (HCMC), during the “Month of Pho” celebration.

According to Chef Lê Trung, the dish still follows traditional pho methods (beef & chicken bones simmered for 48 hours with cinnamon and star anise), but is elevated with rare imported ingredients:

Wagyu beef (3.5M VND/kg)

French foie gras

Fresh Australian truffle (45M VND/kg), shaved tableside

Gold leaf (3.5M VND/sheet)

Each bowl contains 7 premium beef cuts, including Angus, brisket, tendon, tongue, and meatballs.

Though praised for its creativity, many pho lovers argue that such upscale toppings distract from the humble, authentic essence of Vietnamese pho.
